NordPass, created by the cybersecurity experts behind Nord-VPN, prioritizes your privacy. During our review, we awarded the service a score of 8.5/10, taking into account the following privacy measures:

• Nord-Pass has a zero-knowledge policy; only you can see your passwords and access them with your Master Password.
• All data is encrypted and decrypted at a device level with 256-bit security keys.
• The company has passed several independent cybersecurity audits, most recently an SOC 2 Type 1 audit by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).

Privacy policy

By adhering to a zero-knowledge policy, Nord-Pass guarantees the utmost privacy. This policy ensures that neither Nord-Pass nor any third party can access your passwords; only you and those with whom you share your passwords have this capability.

When evaluating the Nord-Pass software, access to our passwords required the use of a Master Password. A Premium Nord-Pass account allowed us to generate a recovery key (Emergency Access) in case the Master Password was forgotten. It’s important to note that you are the sole custodian of this information, thanks to NordPass’s zero-knowledge architecture.

Ensure the key is kept secure. If both your Master Password and recovery key are lost, your data could be irretrievable. However, you can customize how long your Nord-Pass password vault remains unlocked before requiring the Master Password to be re-entered.

The browser extensions for NordPass

After installing NordPass, it’s time to add the browser extension. Nord-Pass offers extensions for browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Brave, and Opera.

NordPass impressed us by offering security and privacy extensions for numerous platforms, a feature lacking in many other password managers. The browser extension enables quick and secure password entry and storage. Follow these steps to add your preferred extension:

1. Open the Nord-Pass app.
2. Go to “Settings.”
3. Go to the tab “Browser Extensions.”
4. Click the button next to the name of your browser.
5. Add the extension to the page you are taken to. You will now see a code. Type this code in the small window that appears.

The browser extension has been successfully added. Our experience with the Nord-Pass extension was highly positive, as it seamlessly integrated with all platforms. It offers a convenient and efficient method for automatically entering and storing account information across different websites and applications.

One drawback we encountered was the need to manually enter our username when saving account details.

In contrast, our review of Keeper, another well-known password manager, revealed that it offers browser extensions for Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, Opera, and Brave. Therefore, if you frequently use Safari, it might be worthwhile to consider Keeper as an alternative.

Software and features

During our Nord-Pass review, we were pleased to find that Nord-Pass offers apps for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS. We primarily tested Nord-Pass on a Windows PC, where it performed excellently.

NordPass facilitates synchronization across all your devices, allowing access to your passwords and data as long as you know your Master Password. However, simultaneous logins are limited; the free version permits use on only one device at a time, while the premium version allows for simultaneous logins on up to six devices.

Upon initial login to our Nord-Pass account, we were prompted to automatically upload all passwords saved in our browser, a feature we highly recommend. This eliminates the need to manually add each account individually, though that option is also available. Additionally, Nord-Pass supports importing from a CSV file or copying data from other password managers.

When contacting them via email, we received assistance within four hours, which is relatively prompt for email support but may not meet everyone’s expectations for speed.
